May 9, 2017 – On May 9th, 2017, at approximately 1pm the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a bank robbery in-progress at the El Dorado Savings Bank on Combie Rd. in South County. It was reported that a white male subject in his thirties, wearing dark sunglasses, a beanie and dark clothing, entered the bank and brandished a black handgun. The subject proceeded to rob the bank of an undisclosed amount of money and fled on foot towards a nearby residential neighborhood, where he likely had a vehicle waiting. No one inside the bank reported being injured during the incident.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit responded to the bank as well, where they collected evidence and took statements from witnesses. Surveillance footage from inside the bank reveals the subject is believed to be the “Khaki Bandit”, who has been responsible for numerous other bank robberies throughout the north state. The FBI currently has a $20,000.00 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect in these robberies.
