Nevada City, CA September 10, 2019 – After this winter’s exceptional rain season, a full and beautifully blue Scotts Flat Lake will once again host a variety of female athletes participating in the 25th anniversary of the Barbara Schmidt Millar (BSM) Women’s Triathlon and 5K Run/Walk.

The event takes place at 9:00 a.m., Sept. 15 at the Scott’s Flat Lake boat ramp in the Cascade Shores community of Nevada City. The last call for online registration is Thursday, Sept. 12 at noon. In-person registrations will be accepted at the event expo and packet pick-up, taking place Saturday, Sept. 14, 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, Building 3, rooms 120/130.

Proceeds from this year’s event will provide vital breast cancer services at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital and will fund scholarships to female graduates of Nevada Union who are interested in pursuing a degree in healthcare.

Longtime Nevada County resident and BSM Women’s Triathlon and 5K Run/Walk Race Director, Vanessa Hale, hopes the event will inspire, as well as educate.

“This year we have renewed our mission of not only helping those who are fighting breast cancer, we will also continue helping to spread awareness of the importance of early detection,” said Hale.

In the last fiscal year, the BSM Triathlon has helped provide 77 mammograms and procedures at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in eight women will get breast cancer and regular mammograms can reduce the risk of dying from the disease.
