Grass Valley, CA — The five local Rotary Clubs of Penn Valley, Nevada City, Nevada City 49ers, Grass Valley and Grass Valley South are joining together to help improve the music education programs in our local Western Nevada County middle schools.

These Rotary Clubs will be collecting used musical instruments, and are raising funds to repair them and donate them to local middle schools for their music programs.

“At last year’s Rotary Music Contest, we noticed fewer music students entering the competition, and it made us question why. We discovered that the local middle schools either had a low inventory of instruments, or instruments that were not working and needed repair”, said Laura Armacher, President of the Grass Valley South Rotary Club. “A solid musical education begins in the middle schools and continues through high school and beyond. This year we’re concentrating on the middle school music programs but if funds and contributions allow, we will extend our efforts into the high school as well.”

About our Donation Days

The first instrument donation day will be Saturday, February 8 from 9 am to 1 pm at Lyman Gilmore Middle School. Rotarians will be stationed where parents drop students off and can take your donation of used band and string instruments, or funds to help with the repair of donated instruments.

If you have a donation but cannot attend the February 8th rain or shine collection event, please call 661-648-7357 to make arrangements to donate.
