March 31, 2021 – On March 29th, the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of a red Ford F-250 that appeared to have been abandoned on the Fordyce Trail for 1-3 weeks. Patrol staff hiked into the vehicle and determined the registered owner was a reported missing person out of southern California. Further investigation showed no recent contacts or information concerning the missing subject’s location.
NCSSAR launched a search mission in the area in an attempt to find the missing subject or clues to his location. Searchers from the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, NCSSAR and Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue deployed on snow shoes, skies and in multiple specialized vehicles in the area.
Sadly, the missing subject was found deceased by searchers approximately 1/2 mile from his vehicle. Our sincerest condolences go out to subject’s family, and our thanks to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, TNSAR, and the Tahoe National Forest for your help.
