Molly Fisk, now officially Nevada County Poet Laureate

NEVADA CITY, Calif. March 28, 2017 – The Nevada County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution accepting the “establishment of a Nevada County Poet Laureate Program and the nomination and designation of the Poet Laureate by Nevada County Arts Council, Ms. Molly Fisk, for the term of April 1, 2017 through March 31, 2018” at today’s meeting.

The resolution is a prelude to Saturday’s 1st Annual Sierra Poetry Festival held at Sierra College from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm.

During the festival, in partnership with Nevada County Board of Supervisors, the Nevada County Arts Council will officially inaugurate the county’s first ever Poet Laureate Program.

California Poet Laureate Dana Gioia will deliver the keynote and welcome Molly Fisk and Nevada County to the Poet Laureate Program. The county will join approximately 14 other counties in California that formally recognize “the advancement of poetry, literacy and the arts helps build and enhance healthy communities by promoting imagination, creativity, and cultural exchange.”
