January 3, 2018 – Every day is Earth Day in Rotary, and this is why Rotary International President Ian Riseley has asked that this year each Rotarian in every community worldwide should see that a minimum of one tree per Rotarian is planted.
The Area 4 Rotary Clubs (49er Breakfast Rotary of Nevada City, Nevada City Rotary, Grass Valley Rotary, Grass Valley South Rotary, and Penn Valley Rotary) are coming together to host the “400 Free Tree Giveaway”.
Ponderosa Pine Saplings will be given out on Saturday, January 13th, 2018, starting at 9am and ending at noon (sooner if supplies run out). The location is the parking lot of The Union Newspaper, 464 Sutton Way, Grass Valley. The parking lot will be set up as a drive-through to pick up your tree(s), so please watch for signs indicating the “in” and “out” driveways.
January is a great time to plant new trees. Planting and care instructions will be included with each free sapling. Rotary’s hope is every single tree gets planted in our community, to help with local reforestation efforts due to bark beetle, drought and fire.
Four hundred trees will be handed out that morning, while supplies last. We would love to know where these trees get planted, so we ask that when you plant them, please take a photo or video of where it’s planted and email it to Trees4Rotary@yahoo.com.
