Job Opportunity: Fire Chief for North San Juan Fire Protection District
The North San Juan Volunteer Fire Protection District provides fire protection, Basic Life Support (BLS) emergency medical treatment, and community risk reduction out of four fire stations with 40+ volunteer firefighters. The District is 87 square miles and serves roughly 2500 year-round residents. In addition to the 40+ volunteer firefighters, the District employs two part-time administrative staff and a part time Fire Chief.
North San Juan Fire is currently accepting applications for the position of Fire Chief.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a qualified, community-minded individual to serve as Fire Chief for our rural fire department. This is a part-time, non-PERS position estimated at approximately 15-20 hours per week, including attendance at meetings as necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee administration and management of the fire district in coordination with volunteer and paid-call staff, office staff, and the Board of Directors.
- Provide leadership in planning, organization, and direction of fire protection and emergency response services
- Attend board and community meetings as needed
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal fire regulations
- Work closely with the District Manager to support sound fiscal management and responsible use of District funds.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in fire department administration and management
- Background in fire service, emergency response, or related field
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Familiarity with the unique needs and operations of small, rural fire departments
