June 29, 2020 at 6:33 PM The latest Nevada County numbers show an increase of five new cases, 77 on the east side with 68 in the Truckee ZIP code area and 36 on the west side with 12 in the Grass Valley ZIP code. 30 cases are active. Two weeks ago, June 15th, the east side had 41 cases and the west side had 12 cases. 1,427 test results were reported.  Laboratory tests are required to be reported to the Public Health Department per California Health and Safety Code, and these numbers are updated weekly on Mondays. Tested numbers are from the State’s data reporting system, CalREDIE. There is a lag time between the time the test is taken and the time that the lab results are finalized and entered into CalREDIE.

State data: California now has 200,461 confirmed cases of COVID-19, resulting in 5,812 deaths. The number of COVID-related deaths increased by 1.4 percent from Wednesday’s total of 5,733. The number of COVID-19 diagnostic test results in California reached a total of 3,771,314 an increase of 76,969 tests since Wednesday. The rate of positive tests over the last 14 days is 5.3 percent. We are going to see breezy northerly winds today with gusts up 35 mph late morning into the early evening. Northerly winds will stay elevated into early Thursday afternoon but won’t be as strong. Relative humidity this afternoon will fall into the teens and single digits and overnight tonight we will see poor to moderate recoveries. These breezy winds along with low relative humidity will bring increased fire weather conditions for elevations mainly below 2000 feet into early Thursday afternoon. Less wind is expected after Thursday afternoon but conditions will remain dry. Today will also be the start of a warming trend with highs pushing back into the 90s across the valley. June 10, 2020 at 10:28 AM The trail between the Gate 1 and Gate 2 campgrounds at Scotts Flat Reservoir will be closed on Wednesday, June 10 for vegetation removal to reduce wildfire risk.

The Nevada Irrigation District (NID) must close the trail between the two campgrounds for the safety of the public. Work crews will be using chainsaws and other equipment to cut ladder fuels and to remove hazard trees, and then to carry this material into areas where it can be accessed for cleanup.

The public will encounter “trail closed” and “area closed” signs at the silver gate off Scotts Flat Road, between the two campgrounds, and also on the trail if they walk or bike in from the boat ramp area at Gate 2 or from the Gate 1 side.
