November 26, 2024 at 9:25 PM From a reader: Our cat is lost. We are currently living in an RV at the GVRV Resort, having just sold our home in Nevada City and looking to buy another. So she doesn’t know where she is here in Grass Valley at the RV resort. She just ran out of our RV around 10AM on 11-25-24, and disappeared. She is a shorthair black cat, with white at the throat, some white areas on her tummy, white paws and white whiskers. Female cat about 2-3 years old and very sweet (but a bit shy and afraid of most dogs). Her name is Lily. She is also microchipped. Please let us know if you find her at 530-265-8590.

November 21, 2024 at 7:32 PM From Peardale Chicago Park Fire PIO Daniel Ramey: Earlier today Peardale Chicago Park Fire, Ophir Hill Fire and CAL FIRE were dispatched for a vehicle accident in the area of HWY 174 across from Best Friends Animal Clinic. Both vehicles had major damage and required extrication to remove the victims from the vehicles. Crews quickly worked on cutting out the patients with the jaws of life and an additional Sierra Nevada Ambulance was sent to the scene as well as a CHP Helicopter to fly an injured patient to a trauma center. Thank you to CHP and Kilroyโ€™s Towing for also assisting on the incident.

November 21, 2024 at 10:11 AM Liberty Utilities (Liberty) has notified its Markleeville, Woodfords, Desolation Hotel (Hope Valley), Topaz, Coleville, and Walker customers that it may implement a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 5:00 a.m. to reduce wildfire risk and promote the safety of the community during the anticipated extreme weather conditions. If a PSPS is implemented, it could last more than 24 hours before power can be safely restored.

The second, colder wave of the storm moves onshore Saturday through Tuesday bringing additional periods of rain and moderate to heavy mountain snow with isolated thunderstorm potential. Lower snow levels with this next wave introduces potential for up to a few feet of snow at pass level. Widespread major flooding impacts not expected given dry soils but enough rain to cause sharp rises on creeks, streams, and rivers and issues during commutes. Weather will finally begin to dry out for later Wednesday into Thanksgiving.

November 21, 2024 at 9:00 AM Tahoe National Forest fire and fuels personnel successfully completed 75 acres of prescribed pile burning within the Trapper Project on Nov. 19. Due to high winds with low precipitation, ignitions were held yesterday, Nov. 20 while fire personnel secured the unit. Overnight, the project area received approximately 2.5″ of rain. Due to significant precipitation, some roads within the project area are inaccessible. Today, Nov. 21 fire and fuels personnel are planning to resume ignitions on additional units. Ignitions within the project area may continue over the coming days, conditions permitting such as weather, road accessibility and resource availability. Smoke may be visible from Camptonville and surrounding areas. Smoke impacts will be carefully monitored and efforts will be taken to reduce impacts to communities.

November 20, 2024 at 5:45 PM NV Energyโ€™s PSOM Warning affecting Truckee has been canceled. High fire danger in Verdi has diminished. As a result, NV Energy has canceled its plans to de-energize transmission lines in Verdi that serve electricity to TDPUDโ€™s system.

While Verdi had its PSOM warning canceled, about 15,000 NV Energy customers in the Reno/Carson area did experience a PSOM outage beginning early Wednesday morning. Many are expected to be out of power until Thursday.

November 19, 2024 at 6:19 PM PSOM WARNING ISSUED: NV Energy has issued a Public Safety Outage Management (PSOM) Warning due to extreme weather conditions and high fire danger in Verdi. If conditions persist, NV Energy plans to de-energize transmission lines in Verdi that serve electricity TDPUD customers on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 6am. This will result in a local power outage that will impact all TDPUD customers and is predicted to last for a period of 1-2+ days. If the PSOM goes into effect, Truckee Donner PUD and Truckee-Donner Recreation and Park District will stand up an outage center at the Community Arts Center at 10046 Church St. This facility will only provide a place to charge devices and obtain information from TDPUD. The outage center will be open to the public from 8am-6pm daily, beginning Wednesday morning.

Liberty Utilities (Liberty) has notified its Markleeville, Woodfords, Desolation Hotel (Hope Valley), Topaz, Coleville, and Walker customers that it may implement a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at 2:00 a.m. to reduce wildfire risk and promote the safety of the community during the anticipated extreme weather conditions. If a PSPS is implemented, it could last more than 24 hours before power can be safely restored. Customers are encouraged to visit one of our two Community Resource Centers on Wednesday, November 20 from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. if they are unable to secure necessary alternative power. Fire crews took aggressive fire attack and confirmed all residents were out of the structure. NCC Fire Battalion Chief assisted with fire operations. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported on the incident.
