Nevada City, California – Nevada County Consolidated Fire District announced today that it has received a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to purchase new extrication equipment, including a fully equipped extrication system and stabilization kit. This state-of-the-art, battery-operated equipment is designed to be lighter and more efficient, allowing for quick setup and deployment in emergency situations.

“We are extremely grateful for being awarded OTS funding that will purchase modern rescue tools designed to rapidly extricate individuals who have been trapped and injured during a vehicle accident,” Nevada County Consolidated Fire District, Fire Chief Jason Robitaille said. “These rescue tools will significantly reduce the time it takes our firefighters to access and remove accident victims who are trapped inside vehicles after high impact collisions.”

The Nevada County Consolidated Fire District protects and responds to California State Highways spanning 75 miles, including the heavily traveled Highways 20 and 49. This new extrication equipment will significantly improve our first responders’ ability to extricate patients safely and swiftly from vehicles, expediting access to advanced medical care and increasing survival chances.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
