NEVADA CITY, Calif. April 25, 2017 – On April 29, 2017, a major national mobilization, the People’s Climate Movement, will be observed. Focused on climate change and justice, this mobilization will bring hundreds of thousands of people together, both in the US and around the world, to address the perils of global warming and the possibilities of a clean energy economy that works for all.

A local observance of this national movement will be held on Saturday, April 29th in Seaman’s Lodge in Nevada City’s Pioneer Park. Beginning at 1pm, a new film,“The Future of Energy – Lateral Power to the People,” will be shown. Included in the SYRCL Wild and Scenic Film Festival, the film is a positive exploration of how people and communities can lead the way towards 100% renewable energy. Planned by the Sierra Club and the Nevada County Climate Change Coalition, this event is free and all are welcome.

Following the film, local examples of moving to renewable sources of energy will be recognized. Both Briar Patch Food Co-op and Nevada County are outstanding examples of leadership in this direction. Their efforts will be highlighted and awards presented to them for being good stewards of the earth’s resources. At 3pm, a march will commence to the Nevada City overpass. All participating are encouraged to bring signs, musical instruments, and friends – ensuring this event becomes a HUGE outpouring of energy for the transition into a bright future through clean and renewable energy.

Anyone – and everyone – is urged to come! The events planners emphasize that this is a movement for all – all people and all life – and about democracy, sustainability, and justice for all.

Seaman’s Lodge is located at 423 Nimrod St., Nevada City. Parking may be limited, so please plan to car pool if possible.
