GRASS VALLEY, CA, April 9, 2025—The Pine Tree Quilt Guild (PTQG) of Nevada County will hold its annual “Springtime in the Pines” Quilt Show on Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27, at the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley. Several hundred quilts and textile art will be hung for display and judged in competition, with a special featured exhibit by award-winning quilt artist Deirdre Campbell of Nevada City.
Deirdre Campbell took up the quilt-making hobby in 2000 to expand her sewing skills while working full-time as librarian at Sierra College in Rocklin and Grass Valley. After joining the guild and attending classes she mastered traditional and modern techniques culminating in numerous local awards and a 2nd-place ribbon at the California State Fair. She is a familiar face at the Nevada County Fair quilt and textile exhibit, where she has volunteered her time to share the art and local educational opportunities.
Renown local artist and author Velda Newman, who has travelled the world teaching and displaying her large mural-like quilts, will reveal a newly created piece. Her work incorporates fabric painting and massive applique techniques unique in the art quilt realm of quilt-making.

According to Quilt Show co-chairs Rachel Pena and Vaughn Rodriquez, 800 visitors from California and neighboring states are anticipated at the two-day event. The Quilt Show features a wildly popular Country Store with fabric, books and craft items for sale; vendor booths; raffle baskets; an opportunity quilt raffle; a silent auction; special exhibits including Mountain Art Quilters; and, a “Quilter’s Café” catered by At Your Service of Penn Valley.
Admission is $10 with free parking. The public is invited. Pine Tree Quilt Guild celebrates more than 40 years in Grass Valley–fostering the joy, knowledge and history of quilt-making to its 140 members and guests. It meets monthly on the first Tuesday from 6-8pm with new location at the Nevada City Veterans’ Hall beginning in June. For more information visit www.pinetreequiltguild.com/QuiltShow.
