GRASS VALLEY, Calif. November 3, 2017 – On November 2, 2017 at approximately 4:19 PM, two vehicles were involved in a road rage incident on westbound SR-20 at Brunswick Road which concluded in both vehicles striking and leaving the roadway.
46-year old Smartsville resident Lawrence Alexander was driving a white Chevrolet pickup westbound on SR-20, west of Harmony Ridge Road. The victim was driving a gray Dodge pickup directly in front of the suspect vehicle. As the vehicles approached the SR-20/SR-49 merge in Nevada City, the suspect continued to aggressively tailgate the victim. As the vehicles approached Brunswick Road, the suspect began to pass the victim on the left.
As the suspect came aside the victim, the suspect turned his vehicle into the path of the victim. Both vehicles struck and traveled off the right side of the road. The suspect vehicle collided into a tree and came to rest. The suspect sustained major injuries as a result of the incident and was transported to a trauma center for treatment of his injuries.
The victim did not report any injuries as a result of the incident. The victim related to investigators, he observed a weapon brandished during the incident, however, there were no weapons located at the scene of the incident.
The suspect was not taken into custody due to the injuries sustained and the complex investigation is still ongoing. Alcohol and drugs have not been ruled out as a factor in this incident. The California Highway Patrol, Grass Valley Area is conducting this investigation.
