NEVADA COUNTY Calif. May 30, 2017 – Yesterday, 18 team members searched the South Yuba River for a 23 year old male who attempted to boogie board the river from the Highway 49 bridge Sunday about 6 PM with the river flowing between 5,000 and 3,000 CFS. He didn’t stand a chance and immediately went over. Cal Fire and CHP H20 searched for him until dark. CHP had a visual of him about a quarter of a mile downstream just at dark when he went into the rapids.

Monday we searched the area from the point last seen downstream and the area near Jones Bar until it was no longer safe along the raging river. CHP also flew the river again from the bridge to Bridgeport with no success in locating him.

As the river subsides further searches will be organized primarily using CHP helicopter operations.

There have been numerous warning including a post on our page to stay out of the water as the water is cold and flows are high. Once you get caught in the strong currents your chance of survival is almost nil. Please stay out of the water.
