GRASS VALLEY, Calif. April 27, 2026 – As part of its 30th Anniversary celebration the Nevada County Campus of Sierra College opened a time capsule buried during the 1996 grand opening.

Sierra College Superintendent/President Willy Duncan welcomed community members and gave an overview of Sierra College’s offerings at the Nevada County campus. The Top Ten options include Ghidotti Early College High School, with twelve students graduating with a degree from Sierra College while also getting their high school diploma last year.

Over 400 degrees and certificates were awarded at the Nevada County campus last year. Duncan also mentioned the high number of students taking online classes as opposed to on campus.

Dean Karen O’Hara invited everyone to the Bell Tower Quad, explaining that as facility staff loosened the plaque they discovered the time capsule submerged in water.

They retrieved the capsule and, unfortunately, the sealing of the metal box had also corroded and water seeped in over the past thirty years.

However, they salvaged as many of the objects as possible and displayed them on Saturday.

Sierra College Nevada County Campus is one of three locations and currently serves over 1,300 students on campus.
