Grass Valley, CA – February 26, 2024 – In a significant affirmation of its commitment to compassionate care, Dignity Health Sierra Nevada Memorial, through Common Spirit Community Health, awards Hospice of the Foothills’ Sierra Community Palliative Care a $94,000 seed funding grant.

Sierra Community Palliative Care led by Hospice of the Foothills is a collaborative program that includes primary healthcare providers, healthcare clinics, and the local hospital to bring comprehensive palliative services to Nevada County. Palliative Care Services is a specialized supportive approach designed to improve the overall well-being of individuals living with serious chronic medical conditions. Unlike hospice care, palliative care can be provided at any stage of illness, alongside curative treatments. Our team of experienced medical professionals and social workers collaborate to create personalized care plans that address the physical and emotional needs of each patient.
“We are honored to be awarded this highly competitive grant. This partnership with Dignity Health is a testament to the shared values, where the patient’s comfort and dignity take precedence. This grant is vital because palliative care services are not reimbursable by Medicare. The grant, alongside recent estate gifts, donors, and corporations in our community will provide sustainability and expansion of our services, ensuring we can continue to meet the needs of our aging population,” stated Viv Tipton, Executive Director of Hospice of the Foothills.
As the organization looks towards the future, Hospice of the Foothills remains committed to providing comprehensive, interdisciplinary care that includes medical, emotional, bereavement services, and spiritual support, all designed to honor the individual’s journey and provide solace to families during challenging times.
“Dignity Health Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital is proud and delighted to financially support our community partner, Hospice of the Foothills, in creating and operating the new Sierra Community Palliative Care program,” said Dr. Scott Neeley, President & CEO of Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. “As a physician and Palliative Care specialist, I can attest to the value of providing palliative care services to individuals with life-limiting health challenges and to the difference these services can make in the lives of those we serve. We applaud the vision of Hospice of the Foothills in standing up Sierra Community Palliative Care, and are deeply grateful for this opportunity to contribute to the well-being of our community.”
