NEVADA CITY, CA – August: Osage County took the world by storm when it premiered almost two decades ago. Today, Sierra Theatre Company is thrilled to bring Tracy Letts’ Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning masterpiece to Nevada County for the first time ever. Running September 3 – 26 at the Nevada Theatre in downtown Nevada City, this is a theatrical event not to be missed.
August: Osage County is a modern classic featuring one of the most celebrated family battles in American theater. When their father disappears, the three Weston sisters are forced to return home where their pill-popping, poisoned-tongued mother rules the roost. Decades of unfinished business are brutally, hilariously unearthed during their sweltering reunion. Will anyone survive? In this family, nothing is taken for granted.
“This is a brilliant play that deserves to be seen,” said director Chase Coney. “It has as much to say about our lives today as it did when it premiered almost 20 years ago. It delivers everything you could want from a piece of theatre. It’s savagely funny and bitingly sad, whip smart and achingly raw with the emotional scale of a Greek tragedy.”
Lois Masten stars as the hilariously spiteful Violet Weston along with Hilary Quinn who plays her equally fierce but put-upon oldest daughter, Barbara. Joining them is a fantastically talented cast featuring Casey Burke, Ariel Elliott, Cody Enicke, Catz Forsman, Jean Forsman, Ura Frykdahl, Calum Grant, Katie King, Rick Schlussel, Richard Winters, and Alexis Zendejas.
“The level of talent in our cast and the passion of everyone involved in this project is epic,” said Coney. “It’s a very difficult play to produce and so it is rarely put on at the community level. Luckily, we have the talent and support in our area needed to pull it off and share this unique piece of art with our community.”
