MARYSVILLE May 4, 2017 – Caltrans is alerting motorists that the left (#1) lane of northbound Highway 49 just south of the McKnight Way/South Auburn Street exit in Grass Valley will be closed for an extended period as emergency crews investigate and repair a sinkhole that appeared in the highway the afternoon of Thursday, May 4.
The sinkhole is in the shoulder area of the highway between the concrete median barrier and the left (#1) lane of the highway. The right (#2) lane remains open at this time.
Emergency crews are at the scene and maintenance engineers are undertaking an investigation into the cause of the sinkhole.
Once the extent of the damage is determined, emergency repairs will take place. Motorists should anticipate travel delays through the area for an extended period due to the closure of the left (#1) lane.
