Nevada City, CA: On Monday, March 7, 2022 a caller from the 11000 block of Daniels Drive in Nevada City reported she was attacked by her adult son. Patrol deputies immediately responded to the scene and found the victim’s vehicle nearly pushed over an embankment on the property. Upon further examination, it was noticed that nearly all of the windows were shattered.
The suspect, later identified as Casey Johnston, 35, Nevada City had since fled the area. The victim reported her son, Mr. Johnston used an axe to vandalize her vehicle while she was still in it. This caused extensive damage to the vehicle and rendered it unusable. The suspect proceeded to punch the victim numerous times; to the point that she nearly lost consciousness. The suspect then used his pick-up truck to ram the victim’s vehicle while she was still seated inside. At that point, the victim’s vehicle became high centered on some foliage. Luckily, the foliage prevented the vehicle from sliding further down the steep hill.
On Tuesday, March 8, 2022 detectives from our Major Crimes Unit and Special Investigations Unit executed a search warrant at the residence on Daniels Drive. Mr. Johnston was detained, interviewed, and ultimately placed under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, vandalism, and battery with serious bodily injury. This incident stemmed from the suspect’s belief that his mother stole money from him, which was determined to be unfounded.
The suspect is currently booked into the Nevada County Jail awaiting a court appearance. The victim was able to make a full recovery after a visit to a local hospital.
