Chief Adam McGill

TRUCKEE, Calif. December 19, 2016 – Truckee Police Chief Adam McGill announced he will be leaving his position Adam Mcgillin Truckee to take the Police Chief position in Novato, California starting in January 2017.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Chief McGill and I wish him great success in this new position,” Tony Lashbrook, Town Manager, said.

Chief McGill has served as Truckee’s Police Chief for five years. During his tenure, the Truckee Police Department has had significant success developing strong relationships with the Truckee Community, addressing targeted community issues and improving the overall quality of life in Truckee. Chief McGill was instrumental in building collaborative relationships with local partners to address specific challenges- particularly his efforts with our schools and social service partners to improve the quality of life for the youth in our region.

In addition, Chief McGill has developed a cohesive team of police officers and support staff that embrace our unique community and have refined an approach that applies the “Truckee Way” to community policing.

“Truckee continues to be one of the safest, most crime free communities in the State and the Country. Chief McGill’s leadership has been fundamental in these successes and I am extremely proud of this team,” Lashbrook said.

Captain Rob Leftwich

Captain Rob Leftwich has worked side by side with Chief McGill and has been equally important in Truckee’s successes. Upon Chief McGill’s departure, Captain Leftwich will be promoted to the position of Police Chief. Captain Leftwich is a proven leader and collaborator within the Department, the Town organization and the community. Captain Leftwich shares and supports the philosophies that have guided the Department over the last 5 years.

“We both look forward to continuing our current policing efforts and partnerships,” Lashbrook said. “I am excited to watch Chief Rob Leftwich apply his own unique style and personality to this critical position.”

Some detail about incoming Chief Leftwich: He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Public Relations from the University of the Pacific. He has 21 years of experience in law enforcement, including 6 years with the Town and 5 years as Truckee’s Police Captain (second in command). Chief Leftwich is a past member of the board of directors for Tahoe SAFE Alliance and was a member of the Truckee Tahoe Airport Community Advisory Team.

Captain Leftwich lives in Truckee with his wife, son, and of course as a true local, a dog – a yellow lab named “Tank”. He enjoys snowboarding, paddle boarding, riding his motorcycle, camping with his family and fly-fishing.
