TRUCKEE, Calif. October 25, 2017 – On Saturday evening 10/21, TPD officers responded to a report of a vehicle being stolen from the Downtown area. The 2016 Dodge Ram pickup was stolen from in front of the owner’s home and contained the family’s beloved dog, Albus. Officers found the vehicle a few blocks away and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle fled onto the interstate where California Highway Patrol Officers chased it all the way to Reno, Nevada. The vehicle exited the interstate and continued driving unsafely on surface streets, where CHP terminated their pursuit.

Our Detectives worked tirelessly for 2 days knowing that Albus’ safety was jeopardized until they could locate him. Through investigative leads, Truckee Police Detectives were able to narrow down a general area where they believed the truck would be located. TPD Detectives believed Albus to still be with the vehicle and responded to Reno.

Last night, 10/24 at approximately 6:45 PM the stolen vehicle was located in a residential neighborhood in Southeast Reno. Albus was located inside the vehicle, a little lethargic and thirsty, but in overall good health, given the circumstances.

Detectives contacted the family who arrived at the location within minutes and immediately transported Albus to a veterinary clinic for treatment where he is recovering well.

The investigation is ongoing into the theft of the vehicle. Anyone with any information regarding the theft is asked to contact the Truckee Police Department at (530) 550-2323.
