Grass Valley, Calif. August 14, 2020 – Waste Management is reminding residents that it is hosting two separate drop-off events in the next two months to help Nevada County residents make their properties fire safe and get rid of old tires.
Green Waste Drop Off Event (August 17 and August 24)
Residents seeking to dispose of green waste can do so for free at the McCourtney Road Transfer Station this Monday August 17, and next Monday, August 24. The facility will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on these two days for green waste disposal only. This free drop off is only for Nevada County, Grass Valley and Nevada City residents. Commercial drop offs will not be accepted.
Green waste accepted during this free event include tree and plant trimmings, dead plants, weeds, leaves, branches and any other green vegetation. However, items with a diameter greater than 6 inches, tree stumps and root balls will not be accepted. Blackberry bushes, poison oak, Scotchbroom and palm leaves are also not accepted.
Residents are asked to bring identification showing Nevada County, Grass Valley or Nevada City residency.
Tire Amnesty Event (September 21 through September 25)
Residents can dispose of up to nine tires without rims during the week of September 21 at several locations throughout the county, in an event sponsored by Waste Management, Nevada County, the federal Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service.
Tire drop off locations will change throughout the week. Each site listed below will be open for tire drop off on the day(s) listed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you have more than 9 tires, please contact the Nevada County Department of Environmental Health at 530-265-1467 for an exemption.
Commercial and tractor tires not accepted. This event is for residents only, businesses not accepted.

September 23 – North San Juan Transfer Station, 10125 Flume Street
September 24 – Penn Valley Rodeo, 10513 Spenceville Road (Behind the fire station).
September 25 – Washington Transfer Station, 15886 Gaston Road
