NEVADA CITY, Calif. (Sept. 13, 2024) —Help us celebrate the 30th annual National Public Lands Day! The Tahoe National Forest and the South Yuba Citizen’s League (SYRCL) are hosting volunteer trail maintenance and river cleanup opportunities in honor of National Public Lands Day, the nation’s largest volunteer effort on public lands.

Two volunteer events will be offered in the month of September:
Leading up to National Public Lands Day, volunteers are welcome to join the Tahoe National Forest on September 21, 2024 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Loch Leven trail for a day of volunteer trail maintenance. As a thank you for volunteering, fee-free vouchers will be offered to the first 30 volunteers to use where fees are charged on public lands.
This volunteer event is open to all ages and all trail work abilities; however, volunteers should be able to navigate rocky and uneven surfaces. For more information and to register for the event, visit https://tinyurl.com/ycxa5s38.
On September 28, 2024, volunteers are needed to lend a hand in locations across the Tahoe National Forest during SYRCL’s Yuba River Cleanup event from 9 a.m. to noon. This annual event unites the community to remove the trash that builds up in the Yuba River Watershed each year. Afterwards, enjoy for food, drinks and fun during the Volunteer Appreciation Party from noon to 3 p.m. at Pioneer Park. For specific location information and to register for the event, visit https://tinyurl.com/2v6uums9.
For all events, please wear sturdy footwear, work clothes, gloves, sunscreen and a hat. Bring snacks and plenty of water to enjoy throughout the day.
National Public Lands Day is celebrated in national forests and grasslands across the country on the fourth Saturday in September. This event attracts thousands of volunteers to help restore and improve public lands around the country. All NPLD events are coordinated through the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF).
