GRASS VALLEY, Calif. March 10, 2017 – The Nevada County Superintendent of Schools is pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Nevada County STEAM Expo 2017 to be held in the Main Street Center at the Nevada County Fairgrounds March 25, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. STEAM Expo 2017 combines science, technology, engineering, art, and math into a stimulating experience that will engage the entire family and other visitors taking part in this important event.
This event promotes 21st Century educational goals and links to local career opportunities and resources. K-12 students, their families, and community members are encouraged to view student projects and investigate plenty of hands-on fun including: robotics demonstrations and on-the-spot team competitions, a virtual reality experience, music, science/art related video shorts, programming a Sphero, making a bike-powered smoothie, and much more. In addition to performances by the Music In the Mountains Youth Orchestra and chances to get your bicycle serviced and repaired by the 7-Hills Bicycle Recycle Club, new this year will be a STEAM Scavenger Hunt for families and other visitors to engage in together. Awards for science projects, math challenges, robotics, and arts incorporation will take place from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. in the main exhibit hall.
Community and school exhibitors include but are not limited to: NC Economic Resource Council, NC Arts Council, ACME Robotics, Forest Charter Biology Class, Cottage Hill Tech Team, Scotten School Robotics Club, Sierra College, Paralax, AJA Video, NU Green Biology, Girls Who Code Club, Sierra Streams Institute, NC Astronomers, NU STEM Club, NC Libraries, NID, and AAUW. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from local vendors and school non-profits.
