The Nevada County Contractors Association is looking for additional contractors and sponsors to participate in its 2nd Annual Trades Expo for high school students Oct. 9.

The event is designed to introduce students to career possibilities in construction, design, engineering and more while addressing the significant labor shortage in the area.
“We’re trying to show these students that if you take this path, you can make a great living,” said Tom Last, the association’s executive director. “Our region has many contractors who are getting ready to retire soon and there is a very limited number of qualified individuals to backfill this gap. These are not jobs that are going to be replaced by robots.”

While many contractors have already signed up to participate, the association is looking for more to bring tools and offer hands-on activities in their trade for the students to try.
In addition, the association is looking for sponsors to support the expo and fund scholarships for high school students. Sponsor opportunities range from $500-$5,000.
