October 28, 2016 at 8:07 AM Weather systems playing tag, decent amount of precip expected. A couple of weather systems will make for a wet upcoming weekend. The first system will move into Norcal from the southwest. This is a warmer system bringing high snow levels and light to moderate rainfall. There is a break between systems Saturday but showers are likely at times. The second system will move through on Sunday. This is a colder system and will bring lower snow levels impacting the Sierra passes with several inches of snow. This will be the first significant snowfall event of this winter season so don’t be caught off guard. Carry tire chains and extra supplies if traveling through the Sierra Cascades Saturday night through Sunday evening.

October 27, 2016 at 8:19 AM Wet weather returns, several storms lined up. Wet weather will return Thursday morning as warm subtropical moisture moves into our area. Due to its origins, we expect snow levels and precipitation totals to be quite high with most of the valley seeing 1’’ of rain. A cooler system originating from the Gulf of Alaska will begin to impact Northern California on Saturday. Rainfall from this system might not be as high for the valley, but a bigger impact is expected from this system as snow levels fall below the passes on Sunday.

October 25, 2016 at 3:28 PM The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office is confirming that both the suspect in the Sunday morning Guerneville kidnapping and her 7-month-old baby have been safely located in the area of Downieville, CA at about 3:10 PM. The woman, Hannah Ashley is in custody and the baby has been taken into protective custody. The details of the arrest haven’t come in from the scene yet but we will update as soon as they are received.

The suspect was last seen driving a 2005 Subaru Forrester, with a California license plate number 5JKZ255.

One unit is on the Northern edge of Downieville and the other is along the Hwy 20 corridor (Hwy20/Conservation Road).  Smoke will be visible in these areas and there will be fire apparatus on the roads. Please drive with caution when traveling through these 2 areas. At 11:45 am, Doppler Radar indicated heavy rain across the Emerald Bay fire burn scar flash flooding is expected to begin shortly. Flash flooding will remain over mainly rural areas of El Dorado County. Excessive rainfall over the burn scar may result in a debris flow moving over Highway 89. The debris flow can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials.

October 13, 2016 at 4:05 AM Numerous reports of smoke throughout Nevada and Placer counties. At this time, there are no active fires in the area. The smoke settling into drainages overnight is from prescribed burns on the Eldorado National Forest. Prevailing winds pushed the smoke to the north and the nightly inversion has the particulate matter sinking lower to the ground. Remember that prescribed fires in the fall and winter reduce the risk of major wildfires – only call 911 if you see flames. October 12, 2016 at 5:10 PM Passenger vehicle fire on Hwy 20 and Rough&Ready Hwy. Reported as an engine compartment fire, occupants are out of the vehicle. Units are en route. October 11, 2016 at 6:10 PM Smoke widely seen in the Foresthill, Georgetown and Placerville areas is from two prescribed burns on the Eldorado National Forest. 30 acres were completed on Lost Horse today & 100 on the Peninsula Prescribed Fire. Lost Horse prescribed burn, north of Highway 88 near Cat Creek road, began this morning. Approximately, 650 acres planned over 4 days. Peninsula burn, east side of Union Valley Reservoir, began this morning. Approximately, 230 acres are planned over a 2-day period.

October 11, 2016 at 10:37 AM WR&R has been alerted by a local falconer, to a missing red-tailed hawk in the North San Juan area. The bird was lost in the Tyler Foote Road area. It is a first-year bird, so does not have a red tail yet, but it does have anklets, jesses, a bell and a telemetry tracker on it. It will readily approach humans. If anyone sees this bird, or hears from someone who has, please contact WR&R’s answering service right away at 530-432-5522 or Randall Harding at 530-478-9091, and please try to keep an eye on the bird and where it goes. Here’s a look at the latest forecast rain totals for the wet weather systems late this week. Between Thursday and early Monday, between 1 and 3 inches of rain will be possible across the Sacramento Valley, with higher totals toward the north. 2 to 5 inches of rain will be possible across the northern Sierra, and 4 to 8 inches of rain are possible across the Shasta County mountains.

  1. New plume of smoke looking North across the Middle Fork Yuba from the Tyler Foote Road ridge. Just started about 20 minutes ago. Not sure of location but seems to be growing.

    1. That’s a new start on the Plumas Natl. Forest in the Clipper Mills area. We don’t have any other info yet, firefighters are en route to the fire.
