October 2, 2017 – On Saturday, September 30, around 1:30 pm, Grass Valley Police Officers were dispatched to a bus stop in the 200 block of Sutton Way for reports of a male adult who was injured and bleeding. Upon arrival, officers located a man at the bus stop who suffered from several stab wounds. They rendered first aid until medical personnel arrived. The victim was transported to a trauma center in Yuba County for treatment of his wounds.

Officers were able to identify a suspect, 48-year-old Kathy Jo Hoyt. They further learned that Hoyt knew the victim and had gotten into an argument with him in a wooded area east of Sutton Way where the victim was camping. The argument escalated and led to the stabbing.

A short time later, officers located Hoyt near where the stabbing had occurred. She was taken into custody without incident. Officers also located a knife and testing will be done to determine if it was the knife used in the assault.

Hoyt was booked in the Nevada County Jail for attempted murder. The investigation is ongoing to determine further details about the events that led to the stabbing. Anyone with information related to the assault is encouraged to call the Grass Valley Police Department at (530) 477-4600 and ask to speak to the Investigation Unit.
