NEVADA CITY, Calif. January 6, 2017 – The 2017 Wild & Scenic Film Festival, January 12-16, 2017 held in Nevada City and Grass Valley will feature artist Tom Killion and poet Gary Snyder. Killion and Snyder will offer readings and attend several special events at the Wild & Scenic Film Festival.
See and hear Gary Snyder and Tom Killion Saturday January 14, 2017, 7pm at the Del Oro Theatre in Grass Valley. This evening of film, conversation and poetry will focus on the intersection of arts and the environment. “We are very excited to have Gary Snyder at the Wild & Scenic for our 15th Anniversary. Gary read at the inaugural film festival, so it is a wonderful kind of returning and recognition of his commitment to the Yuba Watershed.” commented Caleb Dardick, South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL) Executive Director. Tickets are available online here.
A limited collector’s edition, letterpress broadside, which includes Gary Snyder’s poem For All and Tom Killion’s print, Kaweah Lake is available through the Wild & Scenic Film Festival website, at Festival Headquarters and special events. Printed by Full Circle Press, 250 copies are currently on sale for $150. All proceeds will benefit SYRCL.
Gary Snyder and Tom Killion have partnered on three books: The High Sierra of California; Tamalpais Walking: Poetry, History, and Prints; California’s Wild Edge: The Coast in Prints, Poetry, and History. A gallery reception and book signing will be held Sunday January 15, 2017 at The Alexander Gallery in Nevada City.
Killion’s image Isosceles Peak is this year’s featured Wild & Scenic Film Festival graphic. Wild & Scenic Film Festival Director Melinda Booth began the shift from graphic design to original artwork for the annual festival artwork several years ago. “We are so fortunate to have an iconic writer like Snyder as part of our community. It is a rare honor to bring him, together with amazing woodcut artist and collaborator Tom Killion to the Wild & Scenic Film Festival. We always feel each year is exceptional and irreplaceable. This is truer than ever this year. We are humbled and grateful to offer such esteemed artists for the benefit of attendees.”
Recognizing the importance of Wild & Scenic, the Nevada County Board of Supervisors has proclaimed January 12-16, 2017 as South Yuba River Citizens League’s 15th Annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival.
