March 26, 2025 at 3:19 PM The remains of an unidentified individual were located by three hikers on the afternoon of March 25, 2025, near the South Yuba Fork Bridge [old 49 bridge] in Nevada City. The hikers had cut their own trail in the brush and traveled through rugged terrain when they came across a suspected human skull and immediately hiked to the South Yuba Fork Bridge to call 911 where an emergency phone is installed (there is little to no cell phone reception in the area).

Precipitation will gradually spread into the area by this afternoon, becoming widespread by early evening. Periods of moderate to heavy mountain snowfall are expected later today into early Tuesday, with snow levels 4000-6000′ and major travel impacts anticipated. Heavy snowfall rates of up to 2 to 3 inches per hour are expected this evening into early Monday, which when accompanied by 60-70 mph winds will bring near whiteout conditions at times. This storm is on track to bring a total 1 to 3 feet of heavy snow to the mountains, up to 4 feet over high peaks.

March 7, 2025 at 12:23 PM NID hydrographers conducted the second snow survey of the year on Feb. 26-27; their measurements taken on five courses found the water content to be 96 percent of average. โSignificant precipitation in February made up for the dry January we experienced, bringing seasonal totals back above average,โ said NIDโs Water Resource Superintendent Thor Larsen. โSnowpack conditions also improved from last month and are close to average as we head into March.โ

Phone number was called and texted but no response. She jumped right into the truck. There was a truck seen speeding off right as we discovered the wayward pup. Then head on over to Nevada City where the annual Mardi Gras parade starts at 2:00 pm. The Street Fair runs from noon to 4:00 pm. The Earles of Newtown will perform from the balcony on the corner of Broad & Pine Streets (above the Nevada City Chocolate Shoppe) before and after the parade.
