- High temperatures in the 70s to lower 80s; overnight low temperatures nearing freezing at high elevations (above 7000′) through midweek

- Cooler, below-normal temperatures through much of this week after today
- Temperatures have trended slightly cooler with the latest update

- A weather system will bring the potential for light showers mid to late this week. Models have fallen into better agreement with the latest update to the forecast, but timing and impacts are still subject to change as we move through the week.

- Dry weather continues through the weekend and into early next week, with periods of breezy onshore winds. Breezier onshore winds expected on Monday, especially through the Delta.
- Cooler temperature this weekend followed by noticeably cooler, below-normal temperatures next week.
- Potential for overnight lows in the mid to upper 30s in the high elevations of the Sierra mid next week.
- Valley highs in the low 80s and upper 70s.
- Models continue to be in disagreement over a potential return to unsettled weather mid to late next week. And as such, uncertainty remains on timing and potential impacts of any precipitation.
- That being said, cooler weather and breezy conditions will continue through next week as we remain under troughing influence.

Crews drove all night to the incident and reported to briefing at 0700. The Strike Team consists of engines from Peardale Chicago Park Fire, Penn Valley Fire, North San Juan Fire, West Stanislaus Fire, and Burbank Paradise Fire Protection District. Strike Team Leader is Battalion Chief Jon Pitts of Penn Valley Fire.

- Subtropical moisture will bring chances for light showers across much of the area today. Along with chances for isolated thunderstorms along the Sierra and south of I-80
- Additional elevated fire weather conditions for lightning potential with any thunderstorms that develop in the Sierra and the nonzero (less than 5%) chance of Valley t-storms south of I-80
- Highest chances (30-40%) over the mountains where storms will be primarily wet, but any lightning outside the main precipitation core may result in fire starts
- Confidence is low regarding any dry lightning in the Valley

Public Notice: Permitted Burn Tonight on Bitney Springs Road
Return California and 3 Suns Farm will conduct a permitted burn tonight, August 26, along a section of fence line beginning near 14560 Bitney Springs Road and continuing to the neighboring property line.
Ignition is expected to begin around 9 p.m. and burning may continue until approximately midnight, conditions permitting. A burn permit has been secured through CAL FIRE, and the burn will be actively tended and monitored.
Residents and travelers in the Bitney Springs area may see flames, smoke, and increased activity near the roadway during this time. This is a planned land stewardship burn, not a wildfire.

- Seasonable temperatures will continue through Thursday, followed by cooler temperatures Friday through the weekend and into early next week.
- Elevated fire weather concerns today and Thursday for the northern Sacramento Valley, northern San Joaquin Valley, and northeast Sierra foothills due to breezy winds combined with low daytime humidity.
- Confidence continues to increase for beneficial rain over the Sierra as a plume of subtropical moisture brings shower and isolated thunderstorm chances on Friday and Saturday. Highest chances remain from I-80 southward for both days. Exact rainfall amounts and timing are still unclear.
