November 30, 2018 at 11:21 AM A cold storm system with lower snow levels arrives tonight, impacting the area through Saturday. This system will bring severe travel impacts to the Sierra. Snow levels will be as low as 3500 feet. This system will cause major traffic delays with snowfall rates of up to 2″ per hour down to 4000 feet. The time for the greatest impact will be from 4 am to 4 pm Saturday, when travel over the Sierra will be near impossible.

In an effort to collaborate over one of our most vulnerable populations, the City of Nevada City, Sierra Roots and the County of Nevada have activated their Extreme Weather Shelter Protocol in an effort to temporarily shelter homeless citizens in our community and plan to open the following shelter from 4:30pm until 7:00am on Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights (December 1st, 2nd and 3rd) at:

November 15, 2018 at 8:27 PM GRASS VALLEY POLICE Update: On Thursday (11/15/18) @ 7:47 pm, GVPD Officers were dispatched to the T-Mobile store on Nevada City Highway for the report of a robbery that had just occurred. The suspects fled in a vehicle southbound on Highway 49. Officers were able to catch up to the suspects and initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle stopped and multiple suspects fled the car on foot. As of now, multiple suspects are in custody and officers from multiple agencies are searching for the remaining suspects. Currently, Highway 49 is shut down just south of Alta Sierra Drive while they continue the search.

November 11, 2018 at 9:08 AM Critical Fire Weather Conditions Through Monday Morning. Dry weather will continue across interior NorCal this week. Critical fire weather conditions will continue into Monday morning due to low humidity and gusty winds. Winds will gradually diminish across the Valley tonight into Monday, but will remain gusty overnight across the Sierra foothills. Areas of smoke will be possible across interior northern CA, especially in the vicinity of the Camp Fire. Cold overnight temperatures are expected mainly across the Central Sacramento Valley southward, which may impact sensitive plants over the next few nights.

November 11, 2018 at 8:35 AM Per Yuba County Sheriff: At 6:40 a.m. today; a grass fire was spotted in the area of Virginia Ave off Feather River Blvd in Olivehurst. Sheriff Deputies began door to door evacuations in the immediate area as fire crews quickly attacked the threat. Thankfully the fire was contained in a short amount of time and estimated at 5-10 acres. Residents were allowed to return home. Fire crews will remain on scene to complete their work, but the residential threat appears to be over. (Note: there was a separate grass fire overnight near Island Ave also being mopped up nearby)

Public Health Officials and the Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District are issuing an air quality health advisory to notify the public of potentially poor air quality conditions in the western portions of Plumas, Sierra and Nevada County through Monday resulting from the Camp Fire in Butte County. Conditions are expected to vary from Good in areas that are not in the smoke plume to Very Unhealthy in some areas downwind from the fire. Farther west, a more significant push of high surface pressure will move into the Great Basin. Fire weather concerns will increase across much of California as widespread, enhanced offshore flow is expected. Similar to the previous day, strong high pressure in the Great Basin will drive critical fire weather concerns. Strong surface winds of 20-25 mph within the Sacramento Valley and adjacent higher terrain can be expected. Afternoon RH values will fall to 5-15%. Elevated areas surrounding the critical area will experience similar afternoon RH with winds of only 15-20 mph. The pressure gradient should relax by evening and end widespread fire weather concerns.
