Winds will continue to increase overnight tonight, and we will see strong winds by mid morning Wednesday with gusts up to 55 mph possible. The strong winds are expected to remain mainly I-80 north. This will bring dry conditions with relative humidity levels in the teens and 20s Wednesday afternoon.
Strong winds will continue into Wednesday night, especially over the higher elevations, leading to locally poor to moderate overnight recoveries. Winds die down Thursday morning with humidity levels rising slightly. The strong winds and low humidity will bring increased fire weather conditions late Tuesday night into Thursday morning for areas north of I-80.
The system that is bringing the winds will also bring mountain rain and snow showers Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday evening for areas south of I-80.
Mountain snow accumulation will remain mainly above 7500 feet, but some light accumulation is possible down to 6500 feet south of Highway 50.

November 18, 2019 at 5:19 PM All updates about PSPS #7, scheduled by PG&E for Nov. 20th, will be posted here: PSPS #7
November 18, 2019 at 2:34 PM Nevada County update: PG&E currently plans to start de-energizing power lines at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon and predicts they will receive the “all clear” to begin inspecting power lines at 8:00 a.m. Thursday morning.
November 18, 2019 at 2:33 PM Vehicle into the ditch on Hwy 174 at White Oak Drive, emergency services en route.
November 18, 2019 at 1:26 PM PGE4 has shared with Nevada County OES that if a PSPS is implemented, de-energization in Nevada County is anticipated to begin at 2:00 PM Wednesday Nov. 20, 2019. Timing is weather dependent & may change, however these are the most accurate estimates we have at this moment.
November 18, 2019 at 8:43 AM PG&E update: A strong north or northeast wind event is expected to develop late Tuesday into Thursday this week, generally affecting the northern half of the PG&E territory. There is still considerable uncertainty regarding the strength, timing and humidity levels with this system and some changes in the forecast are possible moving forward. Nonetheless, there is an increasing possibility that gusty winds will result in critical fire weather conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued Fire Weather Watches that will likely be upgraded soon to Red Flag Warnings for many areas across central and northern California due to the potential critical fire conditions. Northern Operations Predictive Services is forecasting a high risk event and increased potential for significant fires due to these dry and gusty winds. Please refer to weather.gov, https://gacc.nifc.gov/oncc/, or https://gacc.nifc.gov/oscc/ for the latest updates from federal forecast agencies. As a result of the potential critical fire weather conditions, Geographic Zones 2, 3, 4 and 5 are now under a PSPS Watch for Wednesday and Thursday. The PG&E Emergency Operations Center remains activated to monitor and prepare for the event.
November 18, 2019 at 4:15 AM Fire Weather Watch from late Tuesday night through Thursday morning for the lower elevations. The system that is expected to bring some rain to the southern part of the state will bring strong winds to our area. Winds pick up early Wednesday and continue into Wednesday night mainly north of I-80. These winds will bring an increased fire weather concern. A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for 4 am Wednesday morning through 7 am Thursday. Gusty winds and low humidity coupled with very dry fuels will bring the potential for critical fire weather conditions to portions of Northern California.
November 18, 2019 at 3:00 AM PG&E may turn off power to approximately 250,000 customers in portions of 19 counties in the Sierra Foothills, North Valley and North Bay.
The weather forecasts continue to be dynamic, so the extent of wind and PSPS impacts may change. No decision has been made about calling a PSPS at this time. As of tonight, portions of the following counties could be affected if PG&E moves forward with a PSPS: Butte, Colusa, El Dorado, Glenn, Lake, Mendocino, Napa, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Solano, Sonoma, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity, Yolo and Yuba.
November 17, 2019 at 4:00 PM PG&E will announce their decision regarding a power shutoff tomorrow morning at the earliest.

November 17, 2019 at 9:15 AM Pattern change mid-week with breezy winds. High temperatures are forecast to be above average for the entire forecast region on Sunday. Fuels remain at critically dry levels for this time of year. A mainly dry weather system moving into the region Tuesday into Wednesday will be followed by breezy to windy north to northeast winds. The strongest winds are expected early Wednesday through Wednesday night. Fire weather conditions rapidly improve Thursday morning for all areas.
November 16, 2019 at 9:04 PM PG&E update: Weather models continue to show potential for breezy to locally gusty offshore winds to develop mid-week next week across Northern California. The updated PSPS forecast now shows elevated PSPS potential for the middle part of next week for zones 2, 3, 4 and 5. There is still considerable uncertainty regarding the strength, timing and humidity levels with this system. Expect changes in the forecast moving forward. High pressure building over the territory this weekend results in much warmer than normal weather. Expect maximum temperatures away from the immediate coast to rise into the 70s to low 80s, which is 10 – 20 degrees above normal for mid-November. Fuel moistures are expected to drop due to the warm trend combined with breezy north to northeast winds across Northern California this weekend. Due to lack of precipitation, fuel moistures remain extremely dry for mid-November and generally below critical values.
