May 29, 2026 at 6:42 AM Editor’s note: With five days to go to Election Day, our editorial policy states that we stop running endorsements and letters to the editor for or against candidates.

Our coverage of candidates or issues at times elicits strong opinions. So, in the spirit of transparency, here are the first two paragraphs from a LTE sent in last night by Nancy Weber.

As a long time friend, reader, and supporter of YubaNet, I place a high value on their comprehensive coverage of local news. At times I have been amazed at the depth of investigative reporting. Never have I felt the need to question the focus of reporting until YubaNetโ€™s recent coverage for the Nevada City Council race.

I have a concern about YubaNetโ€™s selection of background information for Nevada City Council candidates: the heavy emphasis on critiquing Jim Khatamiโ€™s residency–.the limited information on Micayla Sortlandโ€™s involvement in the community.
