They seem to have been dumped and were very wet in the rain when we found them, but it’s still very possible that they belong to someone. Does anyone recognize these guys? The 6,000 sq. ft. building has been in use since it was built the 1960’s. The heavy snow, then rain, then more snow, from these last storms was just too much weight for the roof, and it came down, bringing the back wall with it. Echo Ridge Christian School, in Nevada City, and has been in operation in Nevada County since the 1930’s. March 4, 2023 at 10:52 AM On 3/2/2023 Peardale Chicago Park Fire responded to a medical emergency in the area of You Bet Rd and Mule Canyon Rd. Upon arrival crews found the road to the patient was impassable by their responding vehicles due to heavy snow. The nearby Hanson Bros. gravel plant assisted us with their UTV and backhoe to quickly start getting access to the patient. Fire crews had to clear the road of trees that had fallen across the road while other fire personnel snowshoed in to make contact with the patient. The patient was evaluated and loaded into the UTV with firefighters and paramedics, where they made it safely to the Sierra Nevada Ambulance vehicle. Remember, with this next storm coming to be prepared to be stuck in your home for an extended amount of time, and obtain the appropriate supplies for you and your family.

Scotts Flat Lake on March 2

March 4, 2023 at 9:29 AM Strong winter storm into early next week with dangerous foothill/mountain travel impacts. The very stalled pattern and focus of the Pacific jet farther east allows the heavier snow over the Sierra Nevada to become much more intermittent Monday/Tuesday, but the onshore flow does last through midweek which will likely hinder efforts to help Sierra Nevada communities buried in recent snows, as several inches of snow are possible each day. A warmer weather system is possible late week and into next weekend, but confidence is low on details and impacts.

March 4, 2023 at 8:03 AM Throughout California 28,651 customers are without power at this time. In Nevada County, 120 separate outages have left 8,110 customers without utility power for six to seven days now.

March 3, 2023 at 8:59 AM From a reader: Trying to boost the signal for the folks at Olympia Glade Mobile Home Estates who urgently need help before the next storm. Olympia Glade Mobile Estates, Pampas Dr. in Grass Valley near Grocery Outlet. There are residents whose roofs and carports are caving in due to snow. Many of the residents are elderly folks. There is an urgent need for the snow to be removed before the next storm. There is a need for people that can bring ladders and snow shovels to help pull snow off the roofs. There are also some residents who still need their driveways shoveled. The main streets were finally plowed so there should be access to the homes.

March 3, 2023 at 7:29 AM Today is a permissible burn day in Nevada County and Sierra County.

For non-residential burning, an Air Pollution Permit from the Air District is always required.  Burn only natural vegetation that grew on the property where you are burning.  Never burn garbage, construction debris, painted wood, etc.  For best smoke dispersion, recommended burn hours are 9 AM to 3 PM. Do not burn wet, snow covered piles, which prevents a clean, hot fire, and creates a smoke health hazard.

Burning is always prohibited inside the city limits of Nevada City and Grass Valley.

March 1, 2023 at 10:07 AM An update from PG&E: Yesterday’s snow has caused additional outages and about 20,000 customers are without power in Nevada County, generally in areas east of Grass Valley and Nevada City, and along Highway 174. Crews are out making assessments of damage along circuits and will determine an estimated time of restoration (ETOR), which customers can get once for their specific address at www.pge.com/outages or by calling 800-743-5002. With the break in the weather, we are flying helicopters to survey for damage in areas without access. In other areas with restricted access, crews are using snow cats and snowshoes to patrol and assess. We are making repairs in reachable areas and hope to restore about 5,000 customers by tonight. The heavy snow at elevations that normally don’t get much snow has added snow weight to trees, causing branches to break and trees to topple. Years of drought have left trees weaker and more susceptible to failure. PG&E has brought in crews from outside the region and is using contractors to assist local crews in assessments and repairs. While snow does delay our ability to assess and make repairs, we are still out there doing the work.
