Daytime highs should run from 10 to 15 degrees above normal. A weak weather system will flatten the ridge on Sunday bringing a slight threat of showers to the northern mountains and Sierra crest but otherwise…dry warm weather will continue over the second half of the weekend.

March 28, 2017 at 7:59 AM NWS update: An area of high pressure will provide northern California with mostly sunny skies and warming temperatures through Wednesday.  A quick moving upper level disturbance will slide along the west coast and bring chances for light rain to the valley and snow for elevations higher than 4000 feet starting Wednesday night.  As the system passes through the region Friday, gusty north winds up to 35 mph are possible for the valley, with 45 mph gusts possible for the mountains.

March 21, 2017 at 7:44 AM Showers and possible thunderstorms today. Precipitation turns more showery today. If we see some clearing this morning, there is a pretty good potential for thunderstorms through the evening hours with large hail and an isolated tornado.  Additional showers are possible Wednesday with another chance for Valley thunderstorms in the afternoon. Light snow continuing over the mountains. Outside of a few lingering showers in the northern Sierra Thursday, dry weather is expected. The next storm system moves across Friday into Saturday. Similar precipitation amounts are expected with this storm in addition to urban and small stream flooding potential and windy conditions.

Snow levels will be above pass levels. Temperatures will range between 5 and 10 degrees above normal. More rain chances expected this weekend and next week.

March 14, 2017 at 5:31 PM Vehicle pursuit and foot chase in the McCourtney Road area, suspect not apprehended. Per CHP: “… a very reckless driver that led CHP officers on a pursuit and foot chase earlier today. He is then believed to have stolen a vehicle and fled the area. He has not been apprehended. He seemed very distraught during the incident and may be unstable. We are requesting assistance from the public in locating him and getting him assistance as soon as possible.”

Despite the cloud cover, daytime highs today will be warm and above normal. The high pressure ridge will build northward over the weekend pushing most of the cloud cover out of the region and bringing even warmer daytime temperatures. Highs on Sunday will be between 10 and 15 degrees above normal.

Periods of heavy snow will be probable in the mountains with the heaviest tonight into Sunday night. Several feet of snowfall accumulation will be likely above 5000 feet elevation. Snow levels will lower to around 1500 feet in the northern mountains and around 2000 to 2500 feet in the northern Sierra.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 pm Monday

MAIN IMPACT: Travel delays with chain controls and slick roads. Poor visibility due to snow and gusty winds will make travel hazardous.
CONFIDENCE: High.
TIMING: this evening through Sunday, and into Monday.
LOCATIONS: Interstate 80, Highway 50, and Highway 88.
SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: 8 to 14 inches above 3000 feet, 1 to 2 feet above 4000 feet. Up to 3 feet above 6000 feet near pass levels.
Other Impacts: Strong southwest winds will make travel hazardous, especially for smaller and higher profile vehicles this afternoon through early Sunday morning.

On Saturday, the storm will spread precipitation across interior NorCal. Rain and snow will continue into Monday with rain totals around 0.40 inch to over an inch. Snow totals will range from light accumulations between 1500 to 3000 feet elevation and up to 3 feet of snow near passes. Breezy to gusty winds expected Saturday and Sunday which could cause white out conditions in the mountains. Precipitation tapers off on Monday.
