At around 9:50 PM of June 23rd , 2017 the Nevada County Sheriffs Office responded to the comer of Pleasant Valley Road and Highway 49 for the report of a male and female with minor gunshot wounds. The victims were transported via air ambulance and ground ambulance to Sutter Roseville Medical Center and are expected to survive. Further investigation revealed the likely location of the shooting was on Highway 49 in Yuba County. The Yuba County Sheriffs Office responded to assist with the scene and took over the investigation.

The reported rescue at Hwy 49 Bridge was a duplicate call by the same person. They are actually near Emerald Pool off Lake Spaulding. June 17, 2017 at 9:21 AM As a follow-up to the medical rescue with a reported fatality at Rice’s Crossing yesterday afternoon. The victim was in the river and seen floating face down. A friend pulled him out and started CPR. Due to the lack of cell coverage, the victim’s friend had to get out of the canyon to place a call to 911. Medics arrived and pronounced the victim dead on scene. The cause of the drowning is pending the autopsy but no indication of foul play or suspicious circumstances. The name of the victim will not be released at this time.

This burn will help to convert up to 800 acres of noxious weeds to native vegetation near Beale’s north western boundary about seven miles east of Linda. The actual date of the burn will be determined by the weather, fire activity, and burn day status.

High temperatures this weekend will increase heat related illnesses for those exposed to prolonged outdoor heat, especially sensitive groups. Heat event is likely to continue through next week so no significant relief expected in the near future. Upgraded the Heat Advisory to an Excessive Heat Warning for Sunday through Tuesday due to the potential for greater impacts from prolonged heat. Ensure that you take precautions with this extended heat event, check on those that are heat sensitive and never leave pets or people in parked cars.

Ignition is planned to start around 11:00 a.m. and will continue throughout the day. The prescribed fire will only take place if weather, fuel conditions, and smoke dispersal remains favorable. Smoke may be visible along portions of Hwy 89 North, Interstate 80, Russel Valley and the Stampede/Boca Reservoir area.
